Mike's Top 3 Stocks for Long-term Growth

On May 27th 2009, we released the first issue of the AVA Investment Analytics newsletter (now known as the Intelligent Investor). Among other things, Mike discussed his top three stocks for long-term growth. Let’s have a look…

“…, …, and … are three of my favorite stocks for long-term growth and have been for quite some time. I’ve waited a few years for the price to drop before taking positions and I finally did so.”

Below is a chart showing the performance of these three stocks since May 27th 2009.

Now let’s have a look at each of these securities.

Security #1

Mike has guided readers in and out of this security over the past two years, allowing them to lock in excellent gains while minimizing market risk.

As a result, the trading analysis provided in the (Intelligent Investor) newsletter has enabled readers to do quite well trading this security.  In fact, this is the same security Mike recently discussed.

Consequently, since Mike reiterated his buy on this security in the January 2011 newsletter, in just 3 weeks shares have risen by over 60%.

Mike also recommended readers to buy this security in August 2010 after a sell off. He gave a fairly accurate forecast for the bottom in shares at that time. Since then, this same security has returned over 160% versus a mere 20% for the Nasdaq.

But even a simple buy-and-hold strategy since Mike first recommended this stock in late May 2009 (the first newsletter issue) would have returned 140% versus the Nasdaq’s blistering 60% returns.

Security #2

The next security Mike discussed in the first newsletter (released on May 27th 2009) issue as one that he liked for the long-term has also done quite well since then.

Let’s have a look at what he stated about this security in this first newsletter issue.

“You might recall my mention of … many times in 2008.”

Mike recommended buying this security at a certain price range, which it reached. Since then it has doubled.

This is what he stated in this first newsletter issue…

“I would only be a buyer of … and below.

As the next chart shows, shares reached this price range several times thereafter, enabling them to record much higher gains than a buy-and-hold strategy.

As with many securities covered in the Intelligent Investor, Mike published a trading analysis for this security many times since the first issue was published. The success of this analysis has enabled readers to trade in and out of shares, avoiding periods when the stock traded flat for many months.

Most recently, Mike reinitiated a buy position for this security in the November 2010 newsletter. Since then, shares have performed quite well.

Security #3

First, let’s have a look what Mike stated about this final security on May 27th 2009.

“…has had a nice run-up over the past several months so I would wait for this one to fall to the low to mid-teens. You can imagine the economy isn’t particular ripe for …, but for long-term investors, this one should do well for many reasons.”

As you can see from the next chart, shares did reach the mid-teens soon after. Since then, the stock hasn’t looked back.

Even if you don’t have time to actively manage individual securities positions, simply by having access to our market forecasts, you would have done spectacular, as Mike has advised readers to ride the U.S. market all the up to current levels for more than 85% gains (with the exception of a few months when risk was high).
